Welcome to 7th & 8th grade Language Arts!

We believe that both reading and writing are equally important and throughout the year students will have multiple opportunities for both. Knights will have “choice” reads and “prescriptive” reads. The LA teachers allow students to read a book of choice, additionally students will have required or expected (prescriptive) reads. These will include poetry, drama, novels, short stories, fiction, and non-fiction selections. Knights are expected to read and respond to what they have read by speaking and writing. Reading and writing opens the mind and helps Knights with their critical reading and thinking skills. The LA teachers look forward to helping students make connections personally, across genres, and with the world by reading, writing, and discussing informational, expository, and fictional texts, plus exploring poetry and drama. Writing is how an individual can communicate his or her ideas and express thoughts as well as explore self. We read, we write, we discuss, we learn, and we grow. The LA teachers help our Knights write and create their own stories. Because each Knight is traveling his or her path, Knox LA teachers walk alongside our students as they identify and discover their personal quest. We are honored to help our Knights as they journey through reading and writing in LA classrooms of Knox Junior High School!
